Investment Management

Piedmont Investments has developed a unique, robust philosophy that guides its investment strategies for the full benefit of its clients.  In its innovative concept of the two hemispheres, Piedmont Investments addresses both the need for a dependable income stream from a source of readily accessible liquidity as well as opportunities for wealth creation.

Our clients understand and appreciate this innovative philosophy.  Our clients are people just like us: entrepreneurs, business owners and principals/executives of companies.  They value professional services and advice.  They understand the process to allocate capital among risk and safe assets, and they make regular, informed decisions to deploy capital.   They also understand the importance of diversifying capital in such a way that their investment objectives, both short and long term, can be achieved.  Piedmont, an innovative investment manager, helps them explore the range of investment opportunities.

We aspire to invest our clients’ capital in a similar fashion.  In doing so, we look at our clients’ investment portfolio in terms of a sphere.  In the first hemisphere, our goal is to provide liquidity by developing a low volatility portfolio that invests in the public financial markets.  In the second hemisphere, we strive to allocate capital across an array of privately negotiated and structured private investments, which will provide true wealth-building opportunities.  At the core of both hemispheres is a mandate to preserve the wealth already created.

The first hemisphere of Piedmont’s investment management philosophy is focused on providing liquidity.

We view the financial markets as a source of liquidity for our clients.  When constructing our clients’ portfolios, our primary objectives are to provide access to the capital when it’s needed, combined with a market oriented income stream, while assuming as little volatility and risk as possible.  To accomplish this, we have created several portfolios that possess the following characteristics: liquid, low volatility, inexpensive to operate and tax efficient.  They are comprised of institutional-quality mutual funds and ETFs that are diversified across all markets and asset classes.  The first hemisphere has at its core the mandate to preserve wealth, and will provide immediate access to the capital when it’s needed by the client.

How Wealth Is Created

Piedmont has developed a unique, robust philosophy that guides its investment strategies for the full benefit of its clients.  In its innovative concept of the two hemispheres, Piedmont addresses both the need for a dependable income stream from a source of readily accessible liquidity as well as opportunities for wealth creation.

The second hemisphere of Piedmont’s investment management philosophy is focused on wealth creation.

History has shown us that true wealth is not created in the public financial markets; after all, entrepreneurs who create wealth do so in private investments and use the public stock and bond markets to monetize that wealth.    True wealth is created when natural resources, skilled labor, intellectual capital, and entrepreneurs with great ideas are combined with financial capital and are then brought together in a market economy.  We seek out wealth creation opportunities for our clients by identifying and structuring investments primarily in real estate as well as in private companies.

Piedmont has an innovative approach to today’s market.  We believe that a thorough understanding of today’s market is critical in building a successful portfolio for its investors.  We do not employ a “one size fits all” philosophy, but rather, tailor our investments for the needs of individual investors.

he core of this approach is as follows:  buy investments where a price correction has created value.  People make money in economic boom times, but they lay the foundation for real wealth creation during times just like these.  Today we have massive opportunities in real estate and technologies like Web 2.0, cloud computing, social networking and mobile applications that will lead worldwide innovation and to millions of employment opportunities in the U.S.  Piedmont builds its wealth creation portfolios on investment opportunities that possess intrinsic value and are not subject to the vagaries of the stock market.

We have the ability and flexibility to invest where clients get the most value, in contrast to the broken U.S. brokerage model of today. Unlike many financial people who recommend one thing and do another with their money, we invest in the same instruments as our clients.  We don’t charge a commission; therefore, we do not have a conflict of interest. Most importantly, by investing alongside our clients, we demonstrate our commitment to our investment philosophy.
